Our Office Spring Cleaning Checklist For Our Franchisees

Spring cleaning services aren’t just for homes, they’re for businesses too! If the spring cleaning season is shaping up to be your busiest one yet, then here’s how you can make the most of the extra demand for your services with our office spring cleaning checklist.

Getting Ready For Office Spring Cleaning

The big spring clean differs slightly from a standard cleaning routine. Your clients will expect a full office refresh that sets them up for success throughout the summer months, and achieving this requires some preparation on their end as well as yours.

Explain to your clients that they will need to get the office ready for your visit, and ask them to:

  • File away documents.
  • Organise cables, both on top of desks and underneath them.
  • Put all food containers in the fridge or bin.
  • And limit clutter in the days leading up to the clean.

It’s important to make it clear to your clients that your team is there to clean the office, not to declutter or reorganise it. Once these expectations have been communicated, it’s time to make a start on our office spring cleaning checklist.

1. Start With The Desks

When your team enters the office, the desks should be clear of paperwork, business notes, and general clutter. This will make it much easier for them to:

  • Remove the remaining items (keyboards, phones, computer mice, etc).
  • Sanitise the entire surface.
  • Disinfect the high-touch appliances.
  • Clean the electronics.
  • And wipe the chairs down.

But don’t push the chairs back underneath the desks just yet – we will get to the carpet cleaning checklist very soon.

2. Sanitise Contact Areas

Desks aren’t the only contact areas found in an office. These high-touch surfaces harbour countless germs but are still touched by employees every day, often without anyone realising just how hazardous they have become.

These areas must be kept clean to prevent the spread of infection, so provide your team with this list of all the main areas to focus on:

  • Light switches
  • Door handles
  • Office phones
  • Lift buttons
  • Stair bannisters

And any more that your clients have brought to your attention.

3. Tidy The Break Areas

Now we move onto the communal areas. These are all the spaces for employees to convene away from their desks, which more often than not contain a kitchen area… or at least a microwave!

To keep these areas clean and tidy, your team will need to:

  • Empty all bins.
  • Tackle food spills and stains.
  • Clean underneath countertop appliances.
  • Wipe down appliances, inside and out.
  • And degrease all surfaces.

Don’t forget to remind your clients to throw away any expired foods and clear out the fridge before booking their spring clean, or else your team won’t be able to do a thorough job.

4. Clean The Washrooms

The risk of cross-contamination is the most severe in washroom facilities, and hygiene is of the utmost importance within these spaces.

Spring cleaning an office bathroom to the highest standards requires skill, expertise, and plenty of elbow grease, so provide your team with all the cleaning supplies they will need to complete the following tasks:

  • Clean all taps and handles.
  • Sanitise the sinks.
  • Disinfect the toilets.
  • Sweep and mop the floors.
  • And polish the mirrors.

Many of our franchisees also provide their clients with washroom supplies, such as toilet roll and hand towels. If this is the case for your business, then remind your team to restock the necessary supplies before they move on to the final task.

5. Tackle The Carpets

This task is best left till last as dust and contaminants will be brushed off surfaces and onto the floor during the day-long clean. Once every other task on our office spring cleaning checklist has been ticked off, these disrupted particles should finally be brushed or hoovered away before the space is handed back over to the client.

Offices are often carpeted, which is straightforward to clean, but your team may also need to treat flooring types that require different methods of care. So, remind your team to pay particular attention to the edges and corners of the floors (which are often missed), and advise them on the best cleaning methods for each surface type.
